Vocal Shrapnel: Albums of 2011.

You may remember that I posted my favourite albums of 2010 on this very blog, and as my levels of self-absorbtion have increased through being a humanities student with too much time on his hands, I started a Tumblr dedicated to me (as did Massey, but I can’t find his at the moment).

As a manboy with journalistic (?) inclinations (have written for magazines and websites here and there) I thought it made me vaguely qualified to pour my opinions into your ears (it doesn’t). So without more ramblings, here’s a list of my 15 favourite albums of 2011 (click the link).

josephhhh:

Thought I’d write about my top 20 albums of last year. It’s been a lot of fun listening back to all the albums I’ve really liked this year and putting them in some sort of order. That’s probably because I’m a massive geek. However, I’m sure there are plenty of albums that I haven’t been able to…

Hello to our good friends and followers.
We are currently in the process of writing new material (which stem from some of the best riffs I think I’ve ever written) and have a ‘comeback show’ in our native city of Bath tentatively scheduled for Friday, 6th April at St. James Wine Vaults. This is great news as I’ve been itching to play a ‘rock show’ with some of my best friends for quite some time and St. James has consistently been great to us, and is my favourite venue to play.
Sadly, David decided he was done with playing with us a few months ago so this will be our first gig as a one-guitar band, and we’ll play it by ear from then-on out. There’s no animosity as he’s in the process of sorting out uni stuff and I’m sure he’ll be writing some shredding songs of his own very soon.
You may notice I’ve put a pie-chart which appears above this post, and I’ve posted it because:
lol
Love between two people should be considered an awesome thing, regardless of their race, beliefs or sexual preference. To me, having a prejudice based on sexual preference (or any kind of prejudice for that matter) is baffling. It shows a terrifying level of intolerance.
I’m still in disbelief that gay marriage isn’t legalised everywhere; whether or not two people of the same sex should get married should only concern those two people.
People using God to influence people to their cause is a crock of shit. Any God who wants to smite gays to the firey depths of hell ‘ain’t no God of mine.
I would’ve thought by now we would’ve progressed to the point that people should be allowed to embrace what makes them happy and what makes them unique without fear of scrutiny or abuse, let alone infringing on legality. It seems messed up that we can talk to people on the other side of the world by using a tiny camera in our laptops or smartphones but two people who are love each other aren’t allowed to marry just because they were born the same gender and there are people out there who, for whatever reason, cannot accept this.
Sorry for the lengthy rant dudes, just something I felt the need to say, and if I can’t say it on the internet (land of the free, home of the brave, lair of the porn) then where can I?
Hope to see you in April. Let’s drink beer and high-five.

Click this to download Antidotes Playlist #2

If you click back a page or so you’ll see the first instalment of these playlists.

Basically, to celebrate the fact we’re a functioning band again, I made a playlist (though it’s not really of a celebratory nature, it’s just really rad).

These tunes are on it (in this order):

Bustin’ Surfboards - The Tornadoes

Peg - Steely Dan

Back In The Saddle - Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

Dig For Fire - Pixies

Paper Thin Walls - Modest Mouse

Derailed - Joyce Manor

Bring Back Breakfast - A Great Big Pile Of Leaves

Loop The Loop - Wild Beasts

Ready For The World - How To Dress Well

Secretary Song - The Go! Team

Shelf Wobbler - Mr. Scruff

Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson

I’ll Come Running Back to You - Sam Cooke

You Used To Be A Sweet Clover Shaker - Robert Pete Williams

Game Of Pricks (Alien Lanes version) - Guided By Voices

German Bigflies - Port-Royal

If you enjoy the songs by any of the above artists, go out and buy their albums/t-shirts/tickets!

I hope you have a good time listening to this.
